Hearing support

Hearing assistance systems: FM, Roger, induction loop

A hearing aid has limits in some conditions: in noise, at a greater distance from the speaker and in rooms with difficult acoustics, such as schools or lecture halls. In these situations, hearing assistance systems are used to send the speaker’s voice directly to the hearing aid or implant.

This group includes FM systems, Roger systems, induction loops and Bluetooth connections. They are used at school, at work, at family gatherings and during phone calls.

When they are used

  1. Conversation in noise
  2. Large rooms, such as classrooms and lecture halls
  3. Talking to someone several metres away
  4. Phone calls and multimedia
  5. Lessons, lectures and training sessions

What an FM (Frequency Modulation) system is for

  • Voice transmission — a microphone worn by the speaker sends their voice by radio directly to the hearing aid or implant.
  • Less background noise — the user mainly receives the speaker’s voice, with less noise and background conversation.
  • Range — the speaker’s voice can be picked up from several or even a dozen metres away.
  • Study and work — the system is used in schools, lectures, training sessions and meetings.
  • Less listening effort — the user does not have to concentrate as hard to pick out speech from background noise.
  • Group conversations — makes it easier to take part in discussions and group activities.
  • Works with hearing aids and cochlear implants — many systems can be paired with devices the patient already uses.
FAQ

FAQ — hearing aids

How much does the hearing test before a hearing aid fitting cost?

There is no charge for the hearing test carried out during an audiologist visit for a hearing aid fitting. Other hearing tests are charged according to the price list (e.g. pure-tone audiometry — 50 zł).

Which hearing aid brands do you fit?

Phonak, Interton and Starkey. The model is chosen according to the test result, ear anatomy, lifestyle and expectations; you can try the aid before deciding.

Can Sonar Clinic fit a hearing aid bought elsewhere?

Yes. Fitting a hearing aid not purchased at Sonar Clinic is a separate service (300 zł); fitting of an aid bought from us is included.

What does a hearing aid fitting visit involve?

History, a hearing test (audiometry and, if needed, tympanometry), discussion of the result, selection and first setup of the aid and a trial in the clinic. Follow-up visits fine-tune the settings to everyday situations.
